What a beautiful, sensuous and spiritual being this pink lotus attar (Nelumbo nucifera) is. From the muddy waters where its roots are anchored, the pink lotus – a symbol of purity – is born. Myth has it that the murkier and muddier the waters, the more beautiful the lotus flower that will appear. As the lotus rises out of the water and her petals open, they do so in layers around her heart producing seeds and flowers simultaneously. Lotus is one of the most beautiful flowers yet it grows in the mud.
The lotus follows her own long rhythm and hates being hurried. She can live for thousands of years and go into dormancy refusing to flower for many years. Pink lotus is considered the supreme lotus. In Tibet, the pink lotus flower is considered a powerful link between the sacred spiritual and divine realms and the human realm of messy embodiment.
The smell of pink lotus attar calms the spirit and reduces stress and anxiety. This attar helps us open to all aspects of our psyche very positively. Its aroma circulates and stimulates the energy in our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies in a cool and calming way helped by sandalwood’s ability to ground and resonate throughout our being. In the same way as the lotus anchors itself in the mud from which it rises to finally bloom in the sun, it helps us to feel our own unconscious depths as a necessary source and support for our true beauty rather than something to be frightened or ashamed of.
The lotus flower is a symbol of purity that can emerge from troubled waters, as well as the hope that comes at the end of the most difficult conditions. It reminds us that we need to embody in the muddy waters of life to have the opportunity to blossom.
